Line Mechanic (Electrical Utility)

Location: Cheshire, Connecticut, United States; must live within one hour of the reporting location and be available at the reporting base within approximately 30 minutes during trouble-call assignments.

Salary: Starts at $56.32 per hour and progresses according to the union contract.

What you will do

• Construct, operate, and maintain the electric distribution system.
• Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground power lines and auxiliary equipment.
• Work aloft on utility poles and on ground- and pad-mounted structures.
• Perform rubber gloving on high-voltage distribution systems up to 23KV.
• Direct the work of other coworkers when assigned.
• Respond to trouble calls, overtime, and emergency restoration assignments as required.

Requirements

• At least one year of line mechanic experience; this is a fully qualified position.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physical ability to perform the essential duties, including skilled pole climbing with lineman’s climbers.
• Ability to qualify for and possess a Commercial Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to communicate effectively and direct coworkers’ work.
• Must be available for overtime and emergency work and live within one hour of the reporting location.
