Apprentice Lineman (Electric Utility)

Location: Field-based work across the U.S.; primarily out-of-town during the workweek with weekly overnight travel, extended travel, and storm-recovery assignments.

What you will do

• Construct, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and remove overhead and underground electrical distribution lines under Foreman direction.
• Climb poles and ladders to install or replace arms, transformers, conductors, service lines, and light fixtures.
• Work around energized and de-energized lines and equipment while developing advanced electrical line-work skills.
• Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, pickup trucks, excavation equipment, and track equipment.
• Prepare worksites and equipment, support ground-crew operations, and provide tools and materials to senior linemen.
• Respond to outages and customer problems to troubleshoot issues and restore power.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• CDL learner’s permit and ability to obtain a CDL-A within 60 days of employment.
• Prior groundman experience or completion of a technical training apprentice program.
• Ability to read technical information, manuals, procedures, work orders, blueprints, and diagrams.
• Ability to travel routinely with little notice, work long hours and weekends, and remain available for storm recovery.
• Ability to perform strenuous outdoor field work, climb poles and elevated equipment, conduct bucket and pole-top rescue, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Valid CDL-A license.
