Field Service Technician (Marine Defense)

Location: Onsite work supporting U.S. Navy operations at Newport News Shipyard in Newport News, Virginia; U.S. citizenship required for this NOFORN position.

What you will do

• Travel to customer sites to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial, commercial, and specialized equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and complete accurate repairs.
• Identify required parts and materials and support timely procurement.
• Explain technical issues and recommendations to customers, engineers, and U.S. Navy personnel.
• Record work performed, parts used, time spent, technical findings, and service recommendations in laptop-based reporting systems.
• Follow shipyard safety procedures, PPE and fall-protection requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience in field service, maintenance, and repair of industrial or commercial equipment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience diagnosing and repairing complex equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems under pressure, and communicate technical information clearly.
• U.S. citizenship and proof of citizenship are required; candidates must attest that they do not have dual citizenship to meet the NOFORN requirement.
• Ability to meet naval shipboard security and access requirements and perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, confined-space work, and work at heights.

Nice to have

• Certifications in equipment maintenance, mechanical repair, or electrical repair.
• Military, shipboard, industrial maintenance, electrical, or mechanical experience.
• Trade school education in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, or a related field.
