Manager, Software Engineering, General (AI)

Location: Fully remote candidates based anywhere in Canada are accepted; occasional in-person collaboration and one in-person interview may be required. Hub cities include Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Annual base salary: $169,200–$228,900 CAD, with a midpoint of $199,100 CAD.

What you will do

• Lead and support engineers through goal setting, one-on-ones, coaching, feedback, and career development.
• Shape the technical direction of the platform and maintain reliability and performance as it scales.
• Set expectations for daily use of agentic AI tools and guide engineers through AI adoption.
• Remove delivery roadblocks, establish engineering guardrails, and support high-quality software delivery.
• Participate in recruiting and hiring while strengthening engineering processes and team capabilities.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Business Technology, and other stakeholders to deliver solutions for small businesses.

Requirements

• Established software engineering experience combined with leadership experience guiding teams in delivering quality software.
• Strong full-stack technical background with software design and architecture experience.
• Deep experience in either Ruby on Rails or React.
• Daily hands-on experience building with agentic AI tools beyond autocomplete or chat.
• Experience leading AI adoption for an engineering team and demonstrating improved outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communication, mentoring, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with React, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL.
• Experience maintaining reliability across systems outside the immediate team.
• Experience balancing fast delivery with reliability for high-risk data and high-criticality features.
