Mainframe Software Engineer Lead (COBOL)

Location: Only open to candidates currently living locally in the Columbus or Atlanta, Georgia area; hybrid work with up to 3 days in the office.

What you will do

• Participate in all phases of the software development life cycle within an Agile Scrum team.
• Design, code, debug, test, implement, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, IMS, DB2, CICS, and related tools.
• Create program specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, flow diagrams, application documentation, and implementation plans.
• Analyze requirements and architectures, validate solutions, address complex code deficiencies, and maintain development and system standards.
• Collaborate with ScrumMasters, product owners, analysts, developers, test analysts, clients, vendors, and business teams.
• Advise leadership, challenge scope creep, estimate resources, and provide expertise and on-the-job training to software engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
• Typically 6+ years of professional experience in coding, design, development, and data analysis.
• Required: COBOL, IMS, and DB2 experience.
• Experience with mainframe technologies, CICS, File Manager, APIs, external services, and relational or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and related project artifacts.
• Must be legally authorized to work full time in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• 6–8+ years of professional experience and experience with IBM Rational Tools.
• TS2 experience.
