Senior Software Engineer (Mainframe)

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and modernize enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable designs.
• Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, code reviews, deployment, and production support.
• Design data mapping, integration, batch-processing, and application-interface solutions.
• Support modernization, migration, cloud-integration, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, improve engineering standards, and mentor less-experienced developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 7 years of mainframe software-development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2, IMS, and z/OS.
• Experience with CICS, VSAM, batch processing, production support, relational databases, SQL, and enterprise application interfaces.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycles, Agile or other development methodologies, application security, maintainability, and code reuse.
• Experience with mainframe discovery, profiling, migration automation, and CI/CD build, deployment, and release pipelines.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, REST, microservices, containers, OpenShift, Docker, or Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Agile, Scrum, or Kanban.
• Experience with IBM mainframe tools, Git, ADO, IBM DBB, and test automation.
• Experience with SAP, Adobe, SFDC, or similar packaged enterprise platforms.
• Background in supply chain, manufacturing, vehicle order management, or other large-scale enterprise systems.
