Safety Specialist

Location: On-site at the Durham, NC R&D facility, with transfer to the Benson, NC facility once operational. Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.

What you will do

• Review manufacturing and test procedures and develop job hazard assessments with the team.
• Conduct risk-based inspections, self-assessments, safety checks, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Own daily tailgate meetings and build supervisors’ ability to lead them independently.
• Build safety observation and suggestion programs, monitor trends, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
• Track safety KPIs including tailgate completion, observation closure, self-assessment trends, and corrective-action aging.
• Lead incident and near-miss root cause analyses and partner with R&D and process engineering to design safety into scale-up activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience.
• 4–6 years of job-specific experience.
• Working knowledge of OSHA standards, job hazard analysis development, and incident investigation methodology.
• Completed OSHA 30-hour training.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust and credibility while operating with authority and autonomy.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to perform physical activities including climbing ladders and scaffolds, lifting up to 35 lbs, walking, balancing, and stooping.

• First aid, CPR, and AED certification.
