Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist - Electrical Safety

Location: Onsite in Northbrook, Illinois, or Durham/Raleigh, North Carolina, United States; periodic travel to other hirify.global sites is required, up to 10–15%.

Salary: $83,300–$111,000 per year, plus annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of base salary.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain environmental health and safety programs covering hazardous materials, emergency response, occupational health, injury prevention, and chemical handling.
• Develop, implement, and maintain electrical safety programs aligned with OSHA, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout, and site-specific procedures.
• Provide technical guidance on energized electrical work, electrical hazard identification, arc flash and shock risk assessments, and the hierarchy of controls.
• Prepare and review safety policies, procedures, job safety analyses, energized electrical work permits, and incident response processes.
• Conduct inspections, audits, investigations, and root cause analyses; maintain safety incident data and reports.
• Partner with Facilities, Laboratory, support services, government agencies, and other hirify.global locations to support compliance and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 4 years of directly related experience plus one of the following: a related master’s degree, Certified Industrial Hygienist certification, Professional Engineer license, Certified Safety Professional certification, or Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional certification.
• NFPA 70E electrical safety training or equivalent demonstrated competency.
• Experience reviewing or supporting arc flash studies, electrical equipment labeling, energized electrical work permits, and electrical PPE programs.
• Ability to work onsite and travel periodically to other facilities; flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, and other non-traditional hours as needed.
• Ability to perform extensive walking and standing, work on uneven terrain and in tight or hot/cold environments, lift up to 30 pounds, and wear respirators and other required PPE.

Nice to have

• Experience with electrical test laboratories, product safety testing, battery testing, dielectric testing, or high-energy electrical systems.
• Experience with continuous improvement and 5S activities.
