TL;DR
Additive Manufacturing Technician (Laser Powder Bed Fusion): Operating and maintaining laser powder bed fusion and EDM equipment to produce and finish metal additive parts with an accent on machine setup, post-processing, inspection, and production documentation. Focus on troubleshooting build failures, performing preventive maintenance, supporting rework, and improving manufacturing processes with engineering.

Location: Onsite in Buffalo, NY, with a 1st Shift schedule in East Aurora, NY

Salary: $25.00–$32.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Operate and monitor laser powder bed fusion equipment to produce builds according to work orders, process instructions, and qualified methods.
  • Set up machines, load powder, execute build files, and complete operator training or certification activities.
  • Perform post-processing, including EDM wire cutoff, depowdering, blasting, solvent cleaning, support removal, cutting, grinding, deburring, polishing, and surface finishing.
  • Prepare parts for heat treatment and complete post-treatment cleaning and finishing operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine checks on LPBF and EDM equipment, maintain logs, and escalate issues.
  • Inspect parts, document nonconformances, support rework and repair, record production data in MES or work-order systems, and collaborate with engineering on troubleshooting and process improvements.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in technical manufacturing, machine operation, assembly, fabrication, or process-oriented production.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; vocational, technical, trade school, or equivalent manufacturing training is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal, written, and computer-based work instructions in English and perform basic math.
  • Ability to read drawings, work instructions, travelers, and parts lists and accurately document work.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools, fixtures, tooling, or inspection equipment in a controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, dependable work habits, and the ability to manage daily production priorities safely and efficiently.

Nice to have

  • Experience with additive manufacturing, EDM, CNC, heat treatment, blasting, or other precision production equipment.
  • Experience post-processing metal additive parts, including depowdering, support removal, deburring, cleaning, and surface finishing.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings, basic GD&T, nonconformance documentation, and rework or repair practices.
  • Experience with strict EHS, PPE, material-handling, MES, ERP, or work-order requirements.
