Automation Service Engineer (Laboratory Automation)

Location: Onsite at the hirify.global Gene R&D department in Piscataway, New Jersey, United States

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Provide daily technical support for laboratory automation platforms, including troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and equipment recovery.
• Resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensor, robotic, communication, and basic software-related issues.
• Support Tecan, Hamilton, and other laboratory automation equipment, including installation, commissioning, upgrades, and modifications.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis for recurring or significant failures and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain service records and build knowledge bases, SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least one year of relevant experience in equipment support, automation, maintenance, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
• Ability to read technical manuals, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Systematic troubleshooting, root cause analysis, technical documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite at the Piscataway, New Jersey location.

Nice to have

• Experience with laboratory automation systems, automated life-science equipment, Tecan, or Hamilton platforms.
• Experience with liquid handlers, robotic arms, plate handlers, stackers, barcode scanners, sensors, motors, or pneumatics.
• Experience creating troubleshooting guides, maintenance procedures, SOPs, or technical knowledge bases.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, serial communication, equipment networking, automation software, programming, or scripting.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments.
