Senior Automation Engineer (Biotech)

Location: On-site in Torrey Pines, San Diego, California; relocation is not available.

Salary: $135,000–$165,000 annually

Develops autologous stem-cell therapies and custom automation systems for biotech applications.

What you will do

• Develop, improve, maintain, and operate complex custom automation systems supporting biological processes.
• Write scripted machine-operation protocols aligned with process requirements.
• Integrate hardware and software components, including robotics, motion platforms, controls, sensors, and machine vision.
• Develop and implement verification, validation, and functional testing plans.
• Troubleshoot automation failures, identify root causes, and improve system uptime.
• Create engineering documentation and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical, Computer, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
• At least five years of experience in hardware design, automation, or biotechnology.
• Proficiency working in a C# codebase and integrating and testing automated systems.
• Experience with electronic components, electric motor control, hardware selection, troubleshooting, and machinery safety.
• Knowledge of automation principles, algorithms, system architecture, mechanical systems, and motion control.
• Valid US work authorization without current or future employer sponsorship is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of GxP principles and familiarity with FDA regulations, including 21 CFR Parts 11, 210, 211, and 820.
