Automation Engineer (Biotechnology)

Location: Piscataway, New Jersey, United States; onsite at the Piscataway site

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Develop new automation workflows for high-throughput biomanufacturing.
• Maintain and upgrade existing automation methods.
• Support, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and integrated automation systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, software, and system integration issues to minimize equipment downtime.
• Manage project timelines and coordinate internal resources to advance projects.
• Communicate with other teams to support smooth technology transfer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• At least one year of automation development experience in a biomanufacturing environment.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and automation systems.
• Hands-on troubleshooting experience with liquid-handling instruments such as Tecan Fluent and Hamilton STAR.
• Extensive experience writing scripts or protocols for Tecan, Hamilton, and Thermo Momentum Scheduler.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with molecular biology experiments.
• Understanding of equipment communication, networking, TCP/IP, serial communication, or automation software.
• Basic programming or scripting experience.
• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or regulated manufacturing environments.
