Engineering Manager

Location: Hybrid, based in the Sydney or Melbourne office, Australia

Salary: AUD $140,000–$170,000 per year, including superannuation, depending on experience; equity options offered.

What you will do

• Lead engineering execution for a product team from ready-to-build work through to stable, high-quality delivery.
• Plan sprint or cycle capacity, break work into estimated milestones, track progress, and surface delivery risks early.
• Act as the escalation path for engineers, remove blockers, and communicate delivery status to stakeholders.
• Manage direct reports through regular 1:1s, goals, feedback, development plans, competency frameworks, and performance conversations.
• Maintain engineering process standards for test coverage, pull-request quality, and deployment practices in partnership with the Tech Lead.
• Coordinate priorities, sequencing, and delivery trade-offs with the Product Design Manager and Product General Manager.

Requirements

• Experience managing or leading an engineering team with direct reports or equivalent responsibility.
• Strong delivery management skills across capacity planning, work breakdown, estimation, tracking, and early risk escalation.
• Software engineering background with enough technical depth to assess estimates and participate credibly in design discussions.
• Experience developing engineers through feedback, goal setting, and career development.
• Willingness to handle underperformance directly and constructively.
• Comfort working with shared accountability alongside product counterparts rather than owning unilateral control over delivery and technical direction.

Nice to have

• Experience in a scale-up or high-growth product environment.
• Experience managing distributed or multi-time-zone teams.
• Hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node, Angular, React, MongoDB, or AWS.
• Experience improving sprint cadence, release processes, or on-call practices.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development workflows and coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
