Engineering Director - Print

Location: Sydney, Australia; the role is based in Sydney, close to the majority of the Print engineering team. Canva supports remote, hybrid, and in-office work arrangements.

What you will do

• Set and deliver the technical strategy for Canva Print in partnership with Product and Design leads.
• Coach and grow Engineering Leads while building a strong leadership pipeline.
• Own the quality of technical decisions and guide major architectural and engineering trade-offs.
• Translate technical considerations into clear business terms for non-technical stakeholders.
• Build a safe, inclusive, high-performing engineering culture through hiring, development, performance management, and calibration.
• Connect engineering strategy and execution to Print’s commercial and revenue outcomes while championing AI adoption.

Requirements

• Experience leading engineering organisations at meaningful scale, including coaching engineering managers and leads.
• Strong technical judgement and the ability to evaluate long-term trade-offs.
• A track record of turning technical strategy into goals and roadmaps that teams deliver against.
• Commercial thinking and an understanding of how engineering decisions affect revenue and business outcomes.
• Strong communication and collaboration across product, design, operations, and partner teams.
• Experience building inclusive, high-performing cultures, resolving conflict, and running fair performance processes.

• Experience running an e-commerce or marketplace business.
