Scientist I, Automation (HPLC-MS)

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, or South San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $75,000–$142,500 per year, plus eligibility for short-term incentive programs.

What you will do

• Develop and implement automated, data-enabled laboratory workflows for early development sciences.
• Design and optimize assays using analytical chemistry, HPLC-MS, automation, and integrated workflow technologies.
• Profile physicochemical properties and support preclinical formulation screening and developability assessments.
• Advance platform workflows for traditional small molecules, PROTACs, peptides, and other complex modalities.
• Collaborate with discovery, development sciences, data science, computational chemistry, and informatics partners.
• Generate and interpret data that supports pipeline decisions, formulation strategy, and efficient candidate progression.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with typically five years of pharmaceutical or related industry experience, or a master’s degree with typically two years of experience.
• Hands-on experience with HPLC-MS, high-resolution mass spectrometry, or related analytical platforms.
• Hands-on experience in assay development, laboratory automation, and workflow optimization.
• Understanding of physicochemical property profiling, including solubility, stability, and other compound attributes relevant to developability.
• Familiarity with preclinical formulation development, analytical and biophysical techniques, and in vitro methods.
• Work location is specified in North Chicago, Illinois, or South San Francisco, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with liquid handlers, plate-based optical spectroscopy, custom scientific programming, machine learning concepts, pXRD, optical microscopy, light scattering, thermal analysis, or other biophysical characterization techniques.
• Experience with automated data capture, instrumentation integration, assay miniaturization, and data analysis workflows.
• Experience supporting enabling formulations for emerging or complex modalities.
