Senior Underwriter - Commercial Lines (Commercial Insurance)

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states; hybrid work options are also available with leader consultation. Occasional client or meeting travel may be required.

Salary: $62,500–$115,500 national range; expected starting range of $62,500–$93,500 annually.

What you will do

• Underwrite, accept, retain, and price moderate to high exposure commercial policies, including new business, renewals, and endorsements.
• Analyze individual risks using underwriting guidelines, industry standards, agency relationships, inspection reports, exceptions, and available data.
• Negotiate pricing and coverage while managing the commercial portfolio for profitable growth and renewal retention.
• Partner with agencies, field sales underwriters, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues, develop business opportunities, and deliver service-level objectives.
• Lead or support complex projects, strategic initiatives, workflow management, and data-driven portfolio analysis.
• Educate, train, mentor, and provide feedback to less experienced underwriting associates.

Requirements

• At least three years of underwriting or related business experience preferred.
• Commercial underwriting experience, including knowledge of policies, practices, procedures, rating plans, and commercial insurance processing systems.
• Ability to evaluate insurance risks, determine acceptability, recommend solutions, and price coverage.
• Knowledge of state and federal insurance laws and regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
• Strong communication, analytical, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• INS, AU, CIC, or CPCU designations, or progress toward relevant designations.
• Experience leading or contributing to complex projects and teams.
