Director of Construction Cost Management

Location: San Jose, California, United States. On-site presence and requirements may change depending on client needs.

Base salary: $180,000–$220,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead the strategic and operational management of the Cost Management practice, including service delivery, resource planning, financial performance, and team growth.
• Set the practice vision, strategy, annual objectives, priority plans, KPIs, risk mitigation measures, and management controls.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, industry partners, regional leadership, and internal stakeholders.
• Drive business development through client engagement, market positioning, proposals, RFP responses, pursuit strategy, networking, and cross-selling.
• Oversee staffing, workload balancing, succession planning, capability development, training, mentoring, and talent acquisition partnerships.
• Monitor revenue, margins, utilization, forecasting, quality standards, ISO and BMS audits, knowledge management, and process improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related construction field.
• 12+ years of relevant cost management, quantity surveying, or construction consulting experience.
• Experience leading a cost management practice, business unit, service line, or high-performing team in a consulting environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing people, operations, resource planning, financial performance, client delivery, and business growth.
• Major construction sector experience across commercial real estate, corporate occupier, life sciences, data centers, industrial/manufacturing, or large capital projects.
• Subject-matter expertise in Quantity Surveying and RICS certification or equivalent accreditation, with excellent presentation and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction Management, or Engineering.
• Experience with complex ground-up developments, renovations, and restoration projects.
