Director, Occupational Hygiene (Biotechnology)

Location: Based at the South San Francisco, California campus, United States. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $169,600–$315,000 USD annually, with a discretionary annual bonus potentially available.

What you will do

• Provide strategic leadership and comprehensive oversight for campus occupational hygiene programs.
• Lead programs covering industrial hygiene, biosafety, radiation safety, and chemical safety.
• Advise site senior and executive leadership on occupational hygiene, workplace hazards, and risk controls.
• Develop multi-year occupational hygiene strategies and contingency frameworks aligned with Roche sustainability policies.
• Lead root-cause analysis for physical safety incidents and serve as the key lead for regulatory inspections.
• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of occupational hygiene professionals while partnering with cross-functional and global teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, physical science, life science, engineering, occupational safety, or a related field.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in Safety, Health, and Environment roles within site or corporate functions.
• Deep knowledge of occupational hygiene programs, including chemical safety, industrial hygiene, biosafety, and radiation safety.
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA, CDPH, OSHA, NIOSH, and ACGIH regulations and consensus standards applicable to GMP and non-GMP environments.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to negotiate with regulatory agencies and senior operations leaders.
• Work at the South San Francisco campus is required; relocation assistance is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring methods and hazard control in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
• Experience leading occupational hygiene teams.
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
