Salary: $95,000–$160,000 per year

hirify.global is developing a simpler approach to commercial fusion energy using computer-controlled arrays of planar stellarator coils.

What you will do

  • Lead the electrical distribution architecture for the Eos integrated stellarator, covering high- and medium-voltage systems, switchgear, panelboards, and critical backup circuits.
  • Define grounding, neutral earthing, surge protection, and lightning protection strategies for plant-wide infrastructure.
  • Integrate grid interconnection, backup generators, STATCOM, BESS, UPS capability, and energy recovery systems.
  • Run load-flow, short-circuit, transient-stability, and time-varying load simulations using ETAP, PowerFactory, PSCAD, SKM, or CYME.
  • Develop power-management strategies, load-shedding philosophies, technical specifications, single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, and equipment layouts.
  • Coordinate technical requirements, design reviews, FAT/SAT, vendor interfaces, field verification, and commissioning with EPC firms, utilities, and consultants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of power systems engineering experience, including substation design, grid integration, or industrial distribution infrastructure.
  • Experience with medium- and high-voltage distribution up to 230 kV, transformer selection, protective relaying, and electrical safety.
  • Strong knowledge of IEEE, NFPA, and IEC standards, grounding calculations, utility interconnection requirements, SCADA/EMS integration, and commissioning.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and work around industrial hazards including high voltage, high current, strong magnets, cryogenics, heat, cold, noise, fumes, and pressure systems.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with power systems for fusion devices or particle accelerators.
  • Familiarity with BESS, UPS, energy management systems, pulsed magnet loads, and grid-stability interactions.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or Revit MEP.
