Engineering Manager, Banking (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States. Hybrid in-office model with attendance at least 2 days per week, on Tuesdays and either Wednesday or Thursday.

Base salary: $240,000+ annually, plus benefits and equity.

What you will do

• Own Nova Foundations, including the ledger, bank and payment integrations, KYC, and PII systems.
• Grow the engineering team from approximately 4 engineers to 5–7 and establish dedicated money movement and risk and compliance teams.
• Drive the roadmap with product managers, stakeholders, and product engineering teams.
• Set technical direction with senior and staff engineers.
• Maintain high standards for correctness, auditability, security, and reliability while keeping delivery urgent.
• Stay hands-on enough to unblock the team, evaluate trade-offs, and maintain technical context.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of engineering management experience, including hiring and developing engineers; strong senior or lead engineers transitioning into management may also be considered.
• Experience in fintech, payments, banking, ledgers, KYC, compliance systems, or another high-stakes domain.
• Track record of shipping and operating backend or platform systems where correctness and reliability are critical.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and service-oriented systems, or ability to learn them quickly.
• Startup judgment and comfort working with ambiguity while introducing practical processes.
