Engineering Manager (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, United States; onsite five days per week

Salary: $230,000–$300,000 annual starting salary plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Lead and grow a product engineering team working across payments, money movement, and financial infrastructure.
• Own the team's technical health, execution, culture, sprint planning, and architectural direction.
• Contribute hands-on to system design and complex technical decisions while establishing frameworks that support autonomous scaling.
• Partner with the Head of Engineering on hiring strategy, technical roadmaps, and organizational planning.
• Translate requirements from external partners, compliance, and cross-functional stakeholders into reliable systems.
• Champion the thoughtful use of AI tooling for developer productivity, system design, and software development.

Requirements

• Several years of engineering management experience, ideally leading backend teams building complex, high-scale systems.
• Strong technical depth in system design and architectural decision-making.
• Experience with fintech, payments, credit or debit card infrastructure, or money movement, including relevant compliance and regulatory realities.
• Experience scaling engineering teams, defining processes, and building high-performing team cultures.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity with product, compliance, operations, and external partners.
• Experience applying AI tools to developer productivity, system design, or smarter product development.
