Director of Engineering (Fintech)

Location: Remote, United States

Annual US base salary: $280,000–$330,000

What you will do

• Own the health, scalability, reliability, and security of systems spanning partner APIs and SDKs, money movement, capital markets infrastructure, and AI/ML model infrastructure.
• Make and defend architecture decisions while staying hands-on in the codebase and debugging production issues.
• Lead about 10 engineers through two squad leads, setting technical standards and developing the team.
• Sequence the technical roadmap across credit operations, liquidity tooling, and partner integrations.
• Work with Product, Risk, Data Science, Capital Markets, Finance, and platform partners on delivery and integrations.
• Own incident response, monitoring, alerting, on-call practices, code review, deployment, and testing improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading a team of 5 or more engineers.
• Experience in fintech, payments, or another company operating regulated financial systems.
• Hands-on experience reviewing code, debugging production issues, and making architectural decisions.
• Experience scaling engineering teams and business-critical systems in an early-stage or high-growth startup.
• Strong focus on uptime, reliability, security, and operational ownership.
• Ability to collaborate with Product, Risk, Data Science, Capital Markets, and Finance.

Nice to have

• Experience with payments, money movement, lending infrastructure, or credit risk systems.
• Experience scaling partner SDK and API integrations in embedded finance, marketplaces, or platform partnerships.
• Experience scaling an engineering team from Series A to Series C.
