Principal Welding Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $190,000–$225,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, and qualify laser beam, friction stir, gas tungsten arc, orbital tube, and other welding processes.
• Improve welded designs and manufacturing methods in collaboration with design, tooling, automation, materials, and manufacturing engineers.
• Support production and development of Helios tanks, Deneb engine weldments, and Mira components.
• Set up welding qualification campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and non-destructive evaluation results.
• Provide technical direction on welding techniques and implement automated solutions to improve process consistency.
• Investigate new welding technologies and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience with welded assemblies.
• Experience with welding aluminum, nickel-based, stainless steel, titanium, and copper alloys.
• Experience with brazing, joining, metallographic interpretation, weld-strength testing, standards, and data acquisition.
• Experience with automated welding, robot programming, tooling design, NDE, and root cause analysis is preferred.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under U.S. ITAR/EAR regulations.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in welding engineering or a related technical program.
• Experience with optical and SEM fractography/metallography, hardness testing, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing.
• Knowledge of ASTM, ISO, and AWS welding and testing standards.
