Staff Scientist R&D (Molecular Biology)

Salary: $157,300–$196,600 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead technical assay-development projects, timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional project participation.
• Plan, design, execute, and report feasibility, development, verification, and validation studies under design control.
• Develop innovative molecular assays in collaboration with research scientists, automation engineers, biostatisticians, and data scientists.
• Document experimental data, scientific findings, and recommendations for R&D, laboratory operations, scientific affairs, product management, quality, and regulatory functions.
• Lead and support junior scientists and laboratory technicians; direct management of Scientists or Research Associates may be required.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
• PhD with at least 6 years of relevant experience or MS with at least 8 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with high-throughput NGS workflows, genetic testing applications, and molecular assay development and validation for CLIA laboratory testing.
• Experience automating molecular workflows or transferring assays to automated platforms.
• Advanced experience with long-range PCR, primer design, long-read sequencing such as PacBio, Illumina NGS, qPCR, ddPCR, and multiplex PCR.
• Hands-on experience with high-throughput sample processing, automated liquid handling, design verification and validation, data analysis, and bioinformatics in a regulated laboratory environment.

Nice to have

• Programming experience with Python and R.
• Experience using JMP, Excel, and bioinformatics tools and platforms.
• Experience managing projects and direct reports.
