Staff Software Engineer (Data Infrastructure)

Location: Remote U.S.

Compensation: $260,000–$306,000 annual cash compensation, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the migration from a Mongo-centric resource data model to a schema-aware, Postgres-backed architecture while preserving public APIs and customer evidence.
• Design and evolve Kafka- and S3-based ingestion pipelines for high-throughput, terabyte-scale data processing across distributed systems.
• Develop the Query API into a production platform with schema versioning, joins, exports, tenant isolation, and predictable latency.
• Design for correctness under eventual consistency through idempotent session handling, conditional writes, reconciliation, and explicit backpressure.
• Set architectural direction across Kafka, event queuing, Redis, Postgres, and MongoDB, including diagnosing hot partitions, unbounded fan-out, and online table rewrites.
• Mentor senior engineers and improve reliability, observability, operational hygiene, and responsible use of AI tools.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading v1-to-v2 platform migrations while maintaining backward compatibility and system availability.
• Strong knowledge of Kafka or equivalent streaming infrastructure, including partitioning, consumer groups, redelivery, and idempotency.
• Deep experience with distributed systems and data pipeline engineering at enterprise scale, including terabyte-scale ingestion and high-throughput event processing.
• Fluency in relational and document data modeling with Postgres and MongoDB, including query planning, connection pooling, and online schema changes.
• Experience defining multi-quarter technical roadmaps, collaborating with engineering leadership, and communicating complex trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Solid AWS fundamentals and professional experience with TypeScript and Node.
