Staff Software Engineer (Kafka/Postgres)

What you will do

• Lead the migration of the resource data model from MongoDB to a schema-aware, Postgres-backed architecture while preserving public API contracts and customer evidence.
• Design and evolve Kafka, S3, and distributed data ingestion pipelines processing high-throughput, terabyte-scale data streams.
• Build the Query API into a production platform with schema versioning, joins, exports, tenant isolation, and predictable latency.
• Design for correctness under eventual consistency through idempotent session handling, conditional writes, reconciliation, and explicit backpressure.
• Set architectural direction across Kafka, event queuing, Redis, Postgres, and MongoDB, while diagnosing production issues such as hot partitions and unbounded fan-out.
• Mentor senior engineers and improve reliability, observability, and operational hygiene across the data infrastructure.

Requirements

• Experience leading platform migrations between major architecture versions while maintaining backward compatibility and availability.
• Strong knowledge of Kafka or equivalent streaming and queuing systems, including partitioning, consumer groups, redelivery, and idempotency.
• Deep experience with distributed systems and data pipeline engineering at enterprise scale.
• Fluency in relational and document data modeling at scale, including Postgres, MongoDB, query planning, connection pooling, and online schema changes.
• Experience defining and delivering multi-quarter technical roadmaps with engineering leadership.
• Solid AWS fundamentals and professional experience with TypeScript and Node.
