Principal Nuclear Assurance Engineer

Location: Local hybrid in Gaithersburg, Maryland, with 3–4 days in the office; remote eligible for non-local employees. Standard hours are 8:00am–5:00pm Eastern Time, Monday–Friday. Travel is approximately 30% as needed for project assignments.

Salary: $180,000–$205,000 for Level V or $225,000–$250,000 for Level VI annually.

What you will do

• Identify, track, and remove roadblocks across HTGR reactor development projects.
• Coordinate with technical leads, Engineering, Procurement, Business Development, Licensing, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Distill complex technical information into actionable intelligence, decision matrices, status reports, and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives and resolve complex issues through influence, communication, and relationship-building.
• Support customer-needs assessments and capture plant-design requirements for nuclear island and conventional island systems.
• Develop performance metrics, contingency plans, and change-management support while mentoring engineering team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or five years of experience in lieu of a degree.
• Typically 20 years of experience in Engineering or a related field, including experience in engineering project environments.
• Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-level or highly complex strategic initiatives across technical and business functions without direct authority.
• Experience with project-management methodologies and resolving ambiguous, high-impact issues.
• Working knowledge of metallic and non-metallic components, including reactors and steam generators.

Nice to have

• 15 years of experience in nuclear and non-nuclear audit activities.
• Deep understanding of ASME codes and standards, quality processes, and procedures.
• Experience establishing engineering processes and quality programs supporting ASME N-stamp certification.
