Location: Alameda, California, or remote within the United States. The role may involve approximately 10% travel, schedule flexibility, and extended hours during launch and critical project timelines. Work requires authorization to access Department of Energy Part 810-controlled information; certain foreign nationals may require an export control license.
Salary: $140,600–$165,400 annually for employees working onsite at the Alameda headquarters.

What you will do
- Own the 3D layout and spatial integration of reactor cavity components, including the reactor vessel, support systems, instrumentation, shielding, and maintenance interfaces.
- Coordinate mechanical, civil, instrumentation and controls, nuclear, safety, remote handling, manufacturing, and reactor systems interfaces.
- Lead design integration reviews and resolve spatial, thermal, and functional conflicts affecting installation, operation, and maintenance.
- Develop standardized component layouts, interfaces, and remote maintenance connection strategies.
- Perform design verification and validation, hazard and failure analyses, peer reviews, and technical audits.
- Maintain configuration baselines, revision control, and traceability while supporting component qualification and lifecycle management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in nuclear plant design, system integration, or complex facility layout.
- Experience with equipment layout and standardization, 3D CAD model management, prototype or test rig development, and configuration management or PLM tools.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and engineering analysis tools such as SolidWorks or AVEVA, plus thermal and structural modeling, FEA, and CFD methods.
- Knowledge of reactor component fabrication, equipment qualification, in-service inspection, design control, FMEA, HAZOP, and applicable ASME, ANSI, and ASTM standards.
- Must be authorized to access applicable DOE Part 810-controlled information; work is limited to the United States.
Nice to have
- Experience designing high-temperature or molten-salt-wetted components under irradiation.
- Experience with ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Ability to mentor and train junior engineers and interns.
