Senior Engineer, Distribution System Planning (Electric Power Systems)

Location: Westwood, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid schedule with travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire as necessary

Salary: $129,450–$143,830 per year, plus potential incentive

What you will do

• Lead scenario-based distribution planning studies involving multiple feeders, substations, and underground network systems.
• Develop medium- and long-range plans for load relief, capacity, asset-related needs, and large distributed energy resource integration.
• Build, maintain, and validate electrical distribution models using power system simulation tools, including low-voltage meshed networks and secondary distribution topologies.
• Perform load-flow, transient, 8760-hour, voltage, power factor, load forecast, and N-1/N-2 contingency studies.
• Propose distribution substations and overhead and underground feeders, evaluate alternatives, and recommend project priorities.
• Coordinate with engineering, asset management, standards, transmission, substation, operations, customers, and regulatory stakeholders; prepare economic analyses, filings, reports, and testimony.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Electric Power Systems preferred. An advanced degree is preferred.
• At least five years of experience in distribution line, distribution substation, or underground network planning, design, and operations.
• Thorough knowledge of power system planning, electrical theory, distribution line design, operating practices, and applicable national and state standards.
• Hands-on experience with Synergi Electric, CYME, or equivalent power system simulation software.
• Knowledge of photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, battery storage, and other technologies enabling two-way distribution systems.
• Immigration-related visa sponsorship is not available; applicants requiring sponsorship to start employment will not be considered. Availability for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA, CT, and NH is required.

Nice to have

• Registered Professional Engineer license in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire.
• Advanced degree in engineering.
