Senior Engineer 1, Distribution Engineering Automation & Power Quality/Electric Magnetic Fields

Location: Hybrid, with a primary work location in Santa Ana, California; employees are generally required to work and reside in California, report to an SCE facility for a set number of days, and may work remotely on remaining days. Up to 20% travel and field work throughout the SCE service territory is required. Extended work at an alternate location may be required.

Salary: $143,900–$215,800 annually.

What you will do

• Lead process excellence coordination across Distribution Engineering Automation hardware, software, power quality/electric magnetic fields, and field support teams.
• Oversee engineers conducting equipment diagnostics, monitoring, inspections, grid technology reviews, and distribution infrastructure investigations.
• Coordinate cross-functional development, integration, implementation, and asset performance management for future technologies.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, project updates, findings, and recommendations for stakeholders.
• Support equipment installation and startup, then lead handover to ramp and sustaining phases.
• Gather and correlate engineering data, support grid strategies and procedures, and facilitate training and professional development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or in a scientific, technical, or mathematics field.
• Seven or more years of engineering experience in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
• Valid Class C Driver's License.
• Ability to protect physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and properly manage private customer, proprietary, confidential medical, and other sensitive information.

Nice to have

• Experience in electric utility distribution, grid operations, automation, power quality, engineering, field support, or infrastructure-focused environments.
• Experience with operational excellence, process improvement, Lean, Kaizen, SPC, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Knowledge of distribution engineering, grid automation, protection and control systems, communications, utility operations, ADMS, OMS, DMS/SCADA, EMS, CYME, and work management platforms.
• Proficiency with data analytics, visualization, and reporting tools including Power BI, Excel, SharePoint, Tableau, SQL, Python, and enterprise data platforms.
• Experience developing, deploying, and supporting end-to-end analytics applications, dashboards, performance metrics, and data-driven solutions using large, complex, or time-series datasets.
• Ability to convert technical, analytical, and operational data into actionable insights, executive recommendations, and decision-support tools.
• Experience with compliance, audit readiness, regulatory requirements, risk management, and analytics in regulated or operationally critical environments.
• Project management and stakeholder engagement skills covering planning, execution, issue resolution, risk mitigation, and alignment across engineering, operations, technology, vendor, and leadership teams.
• Ability to influence outcomes, foster accountability, and drive results across organizations without direct authority; strong communication, presentation, mentoring, and Microsoft Office skills.
