TL;DR
District Planning Senior Specialist (Electrical Distribution Planning): Developing and managing electrical distribution and transmission plans, interconnection assessments, power flow models, cost estimates, and construction projects with an accent on grid reliability, regulatory compliance, and customer design needs. Focus on conducting long-term planning analyses, assessing system capabilities, coordinating complex projects through construction, and analyzing outage performance.

Location: Tehachapi, California, US; hybrid work with required reporting to the Tehachapi Service Center. Employees must work and reside in California. The role requires up to 30% travel throughout the SCE service territory. Relocation does not apply.

Salary: $111,600–$167,400 per year

What you will do

  • Conduct long-term grid import planning analyses, transmission interconnection assessments, power flow studies, and economic analyses.
  • Develop distribution system plans, construction designs, resource requirements, cost estimates, and service options.
  • Manage large design projects from inception through construction completion, including scope, schedule, budget, policies, rates, and compliance.
  • Perform field inspections, verify approved plans, and assess regional distribution system capabilities against planning criteria.
  • Analyze outages for causes, trends, duration, and reliability performance.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, agencies, customers, and stakeholders while providing technical support, training, and mentorship.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in electrical utility distribution, transmission, telecommunications design or construction, or an engineering discipline.
  • Valid Class C driver's license.
  • Ability to work and reside in California.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical or customer projects under shifting priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to protect company assets and handle confidential and sensitive information with integrity.

Nice to have

  • Experience applying engineering principles, construction standards, OH/UG construction methods, and industry practices.
  • Proficiency with wind and pole loading applications, drafting systems, GIS, or related tools such as SPIDA Calc, Autodesk AUD, cGIS, or SAP.
  • Experience preparing work orders, construction plans, or project packages.
  • Leadership, team lead, training, or mentorship experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience managing technical customer or stakeholder interactions.
