Supplier Quality Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Blythewood/Columbia, South Carolina, United States. Hybrid role requiring 4–5 days per week in the office, regular in-person meetings, and domestic and international travel approximately 40–70% of the time. A valid driver's license and passport are required.

Salary: $95,000–$120,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Support supplier quality planning and execution from advanced development through mass production using APQP and VDA processes.
• Lead supplier quality activities including PPAPs, audits, corrective actions, containment, change management, and launch-readiness monitoring.
• Drive supplier improvements in quality, cost, manufacturability, process robustness, and continuous improvement using Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Coordinate technical requirements and quality metrics across suppliers, Purchasing, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Operations, and Supply Chain.
• Lead root-cause analysis, NCR resolution, warranty-claim mitigation, and validation of corrective actions and process changes.
• Support manufacturing-method, testing, gauging, poka-yoke, tooling, material, and design-for-manufacturability decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical/vehicle engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field preferred.
• 4–8 years of experience in an automotive OEM or applicable Tier I environment.
• In-depth knowledge of GD&T, inspection, PPAP, APQP, VDA, quality management, and vehicle production and supply chain operations.
• Knowledge of IATF, VDA, ISO, DIN, safety, and regulatory requirements; AIAG Core Tools certification covering MSA, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, and PPAP.
• Experience directing supplier activities at management level, executing project-management techniques, and leading high-performing teams.
• Ability to work in the United States office location 4–5 days per week and travel domestically and internationally 40–70% of the time; valid driver's license and passport required.

Nice to have

• VDA auditing experience.
• Experience with SPC, data analysis, and technical writing.
