Senior Avionics Automation Test Engineer I (Spacecraft)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. This role is for candidates seeking to work in a U.S. office and requires eligibility to access ITAR-regulated technology.

Base pay range: $100,000–$130,000 USD per year, plus company stock as part of total compensation.

What you will do

• Architect and lead deployment of the internal test automation platform for future spacecraft programs.
• Own test automation for Assembly, Integration and Test campaigns throughout the program life cycle.
• Develop, review, and maintain automated test processes for spacecraft hardware and software validation.
• Integrate test equipment and spacecraft interfaces, making architectural decisions for telemetry, command, and data management.
• Contribute to backend services and test framework capabilities within the core platform.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in space systems, ideally in spacecraft testing, systems, or spacecraft software.
• 4+ years of professional programming experience with Python or similar languages in distributed application environments.
• Strong Linux systems knowledge and command-line proficiency.
• Experience mentoring or leading other engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance; U.S. office candidates must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Existing secret or top secret clearance.
• Production Python backend development experience.
• RobotFramework or similar test automation framework experience.
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, networking, IT infrastructure, or systems administration experience.
• Experience with spacecraft communication protocols and bus interfaces.
