Senior Avionics Automation Test Engineer II (Python)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. U.S. office roles are subject to ITAR eligibility and require U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee/asylee status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Base pay: $130,000–$170,000 USD annually, plus company stock.

What you will do

• Architect, deploy, and lead adoption of the internal spacecraft test automation platform.
• Own automated testing for Assembly, Integration and Test campaigns across the full program lifecycle.
• Develop, review, and maintain automated validation processes for spacecraft hardware and software.
• Integrate test equipment and spacecraft interfaces, making architectural decisions for telemetry, commands, and data management.
• Contribute to backend services and test-framework capabilities.
• Establish testing best practices and coding standards while providing technical mentorship.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in space systems, spacecraft testing, systems, or spacecraft software.
• 8+ years of professional programming experience with Python or similar languages in distributed application contexts.
• Strong Linux systems knowledge and command-line proficiency.
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical discipline.
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance; U.S. office work is subject to ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

• Existing secret or top secret clearance.
• Production Python backend development experience.
• RobotFramework or similar test automation framework experience.
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, networking, IT infrastructure, or systems administration experience.
• Experience with spacecraft communication protocols and bus interfaces.
