Database Administrator III

Location: State College, PA, USA, or remote within the United States.

What you will do

• Administer SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, including performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance.
• Design and test backup, replication, disaster recovery, and high-availability procedures.
• Manage database security, roles, permissions, access controls, auditing, monitoring, capacity planning, and resource allocation.
• Optimize Azure compute costs through forecasting, license reporting, Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and related strategies.
• Plan and execute cloud database migrations while maintaining performance, security, resiliency, and recoverability.
• Partner with data architecture and engineering teams, lead incident response, establish standards, and mentor less experienced administrators and engineers.

Requirements

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in data operations or database administration, or an MS with 3+ years of experience.
• Hands-on database administration experience with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, security, and capacity planning.
• Advanced SQL/T-SQL proficiency and working knowledge of Python or PowerShell for database automation.
• Experience designing database monitoring solutions and migrating databases to cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure.
• Experience mentoring or coaching less experienced engineers and leading complex incident response independently.
• Work location: State College, Pennsylvania, USA, or remote within the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with advanced SQL Server or PostgreSQL replication topologies, including multi-region or active-active configurations.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Databricks, Snowflake, CI/CD automation, or Azure Data Factory.
• Experience with structured post-mortems, root-cause analysis, and data governance practices.
