Director of Finance and Operations (Automotive)

Location: Remote in the United States; Southern California preferred

Salary: $165,000–$175,000 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits

Cars & Bids operates an online auction platform for enthusiast vehicles alongside automotive media across YouTube, podcasts, social media, and events.

What you will do

• Own the monthly and annual close with the external accounting team and deliver accurate, timely financials.
• Manage the financial model, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and outlook reporting.
• Prepare financial reporting and analysis for leadership and support board reporting.
• Manage company spending, financial controls, vendors, contracts, renewals, and outside professional providers.
• Own HR administration, including payroll and benefits oversight, onboarding and offboarding, compensation changes, performance reviews, and compliance.
• Manage back-office systems and recurring obligations while improving operational processes and controls.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
• Experience serving as the senior-most finance professional or the second finance leader in a startup or similarly lean environment.
• Strong accounting fundamentals and experience owning or overseeing a monthly close.
• Strong FP&A skills, including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance analysis.
• Experience across HR administration, vendors, contracts, and outside professional service providers.
• Strong judgment, organization, attention to detail, independent ownership, and a hands-on approach to improving systems and processes.

Nice to have

• Experience in PE-backed or investor-backed environments.
• Experience with board or lender reporting.
