Senior Software Engineer - Test Infrastructure (Quantum Computing)

Location: Hybrid role based out of the College Park, Maryland; Boulder, Colorado; or Bothell, Washington offices, with remote work a few days per week. Travel up to 10% domestically or internationally. Access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. Person status, an export license, or a license exception.

Salary: $145,920–$209,241 USD base salary, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end integration testing for software running complete quantum computing systems, including realistic customer-scale circuit execution.
• Extend automated coverage for operator-facing tools and workflows used to operate and calibrate quantum systems.
• Design, build, and operate reliable CI infrastructure that detects integration defects before deployment.
• Define system-level test strategy, close coverage gaps, and implement performance and electronics-control validation.
• Lead integration-test triage, root-cause analysis, regression attribution, and actionable reporting.
• Manage test-system fleet baselines, upgrades, decommissioning, configuration records, and testability practices across product teams.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in test infrastructure, software test automation, CI engineering, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong Python or general-purpose programming skills, including development of test frameworks and automation tooling.
• Hands-on experience designing, operating, and scaling CI/CD systems.
• Experience implementing system-level integration tests for complex, multi-component systems.
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or lab-based environments, strong debugging skills across software and hardware, and effective collaboration across engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Performance testing methodology and workload characterization experience.
• Experience validating electronic control systems using oscilloscopes or equivalent instrumentation.
• Experience with flaky-test management, test observability, quality metrics, and dashboards.
• Familiarity with containerization and infrastructure-as-code.
• Background in scientific or research computing environments.
