QA Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, USA; occasional travel of up to 25% to DEFCON AI headquarters, customer sites, and vendor facilities.

Salary: $135,000–$170,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own the system test plan for functional, integration, performance, and load testing.
• Translate product acceptance criteria into executable tests and review requirements for clarity and verifiability.
• Build automated test suites and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines as release gates.
• Create labeled evaluation sets, run sampled audits, and measure incorrect decisions, system misses, and user overrides.
• Maintain release evidence, version inventories, test reports, evaluation records, and rollback criteria.
• Coordinate customer user acceptance testing and work with engineering and platform teams to ensure meaningful test environments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, or software engineering with substantial test ownership.
• Strong coding ability in Python with pytest, JavaScript, or TypeScript with Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium; ability to reason about application code.
• Experience building automated test suites, integrating CI/CD release gates, owning test plans, and conducting performance and load testing.
• Working statistical literacy, including sampling design and understanding the confidence supported by measurements.
• Ability to test against requirements rather than implementation, maintain independent evidence, gate work owned by other teams, and produce audit-ready documentation.
• US citizenship and an active US Secret clearance are required. The role requires a favorable investigation and CAC eligibility from the start.

Nice to have

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Government DevSecOps, RMF, or ATO experience and formal accreditation or audit evidence.
• Contract and API testing, test data management, and performance tools such as JMeter, k6, or Locust.
• AI-assisted testing, machine learning or model-output evaluation, groundedness and citation checking.
• Experience with model cards, NIST AI RMF, Section 508, or WCAG verification.
