Systems Software Test Engineer (Hardware-in-the-Loop)

Location: Sunnyvale, CA; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the Sunnyvale office

Salary: $160,000–$210,000 annual base salary, plus bonus, equity, and benefits

What you will do

• Design and build scalable automation frameworks for embedded software and cloud integrations.
• Develop and maintain hardware-in-the-loop test benches that simulate complex field conditions.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and maintain quality gates, triggers, and reporting.
• Validate the end-to-end data path from physical optical links through backend monitoring dashboards.
• Create automated regression suites covering network throughput, latency, performance, and system stability.
• Collaborate with Cloud and Embedded engineering teams to improve reliability in field deployments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of experience in software testing, QA automation, or system validation.
• Strong Python proficiency for test script development and automation.
• Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
• Proven experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing on physical devices or simulation environments such as Raspberry Pis, custom PCBs, or networking equipment.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, Ethernet, VLANs, Wireshark, and iPerf.

Nice to have

• Telecom or ISP experience, including gRPC and SNMP.
• Experience testing optical sensors, motors, or wireless communications.
• Docker or Kubernetes experience for containerized test environments.
• SQL or Python Pandas/NumPy experience for telemetry data analysis.
• Experience identifying edge cases involving weather and physical movement.
