Markel 2027 Underwriting Training Program - Southeast

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote

Salary: $34–$45 per hour with 15% bonus potential

What you will do

• Develop skills to review, analyze, accept, and decline risks to support profitable underwriting.
• Learn and apply underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Communicate with underwriting management, product line leaders, colleagues, data analysts, and current and prospective producers.
• Gain exposure to data analytics and digital technologies shaping the future of insurance underwriting.
• Progress toward eligibility for an underwriting position after satisfactory completion of the training program.

Requirements

• Graduate from college by June 2027 and be available to start work in June 2027.
• Maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA and demonstrate strong academic performance.
• Demonstrate communication, presentation, interpersonal, leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Be able to reason through complex problems and make sound recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
• Have solid time-management skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship is required.
