Markel 2027 Underwriting Training Program - Central

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

Salary: $34–$45 per hour with 15% bonus potential.

What you will do

• Develop skills to review, analyze, accept, and decline insurance risks.
• Apply underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures to support profitable decisions.
• Communicate with underwriting management, product line leaders, colleagues, data analysts, and producers.
• Gain exposure to data analytics and digital technologies shaping the future of insurance underwriting.
• Progress toward eligibility for an underwriting position after satisfactory completion of the training program.

Requirements

• College graduate as of June 2027 and available to start in June 2027.
• Minimum 3.00 GPA and strong academic performance.
• Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to analyze complex problems, reason effectively, and make sound recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
• Time management skills, decision-making ability, entrepreneurial spirit, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
