Commercial Surety Assistant Vice President

Location: Atlanta, Georgia; remote candidates may be considered from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

What you will do

• Drive profitable growth through strategic agency relationships, regional market development, and new business opportunities.
• Develop and manage a commercial surety book of business while meeting profitability objectives and maintaining regional P/L responsibility.
• Build, guide, coach, and manage a team of underwriters as the business grows.
• Assess complex commercial surety risks, document accounts in underwriting systems, and ensure adherence to underwriting and regulatory guidelines.
• Collaborate with agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders to resolve underwriting issues and negotiate complex agreements.
• Implement underwriting best practices, process improvements, and quality assurance reviews to improve efficiency and consistency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Typically 10+ years of underwriting experience in the surety industry.
• Strong knowledge of surety principles, bond forms, financial risk assessment, and quantitative analysis.
• Leadership experience with team coaching, development, and performance management; 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role is preferred.
• Experience with underwriting software systems, Microsoft Office, and Adobe.
• U.S. work authorization is required; employment visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.

• Advanced degree or professional certifications such as AFSB or CPCU.
