VP, Underwriting Manager (Mortgage)

What you will do

• Lead and manage a team of residential mortgage underwriters to achieve production and quality goals.
• Review escalated underwriting cases and approve loans while minimizing lending risk.
• Train, coach, supervise, and develop underwriters on company overlays, agency requirements, policies, and procedures.
• Manage hiring, performance management, team structure, and continuous process improvement.
• Build effective working relationships with other departments and support cross-functional collaboration.
• Ensure underwriting activities follow applicable laws, regulations, compliance requirements, and mortgage guidelines.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting or a similar field.
• Previous leadership experience, including management and development of offshore underwriting teams.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of residential mortgage lending, including correspondent or retail lending.
• Advanced knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, lending principles, and regulatory compliance, including FHA, VA, and conventional loans.
• Experience with mortgage banking technology, Encompass LOS, core systems, and Microsoft Office.
• High school diploma required; a related bachelor's degree and DE, SAR, or equivalent certification are preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
