TL;DR
Chassis Design Engineer (Aerospace/Lunar) (Chassis/Structures): Designing and validating rugged lunar mobility systems and human-rated transport platforms with an accent on structural architecture, chassis integrity, wheel-soil interaction, and environmental endurance. Focus on adapting automotive suspension and EV drivetrain concepts to lunar gravity and vacuum, sealing actuators and geartrains against regolith, and executing hardware validation and HIL testing.

Location: Hybrid role based primarily at the GM Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, with on-site presence at least 3 times per week as required. Additional work may take place at Milford and other designated engineering sites. Domestic and occasional international travel of less than 25% is required.

Salary: Not specified

Company

hirify.global combines General Motors' automotive manufacturing, electrification, autonomous driving, and vehicle dynamics technologies with the development of mission-critical lunar mobility systems.

What you will do

  • Develop structural architecture and mechanical designs for lunar rovers and human-rated transport platforms.
  • Optimize chassis integrity, wheel-soil interaction, payload deployment, suspension, steering, and EV drivetrain concepts for lunar conditions.
  • Own end-to-end development of rover structures, attachment points, actuators, geartrains, and deployment systems using 3D CAD tools.
  • Design for lunar dust, vacuum, severe thermal cycling, deep craters, and one-sixth Earth gravity.
  • Coordinate with thermal, power, GNC, software, suppliers, customers, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Define and execute validation for actuators, mobility geartrains, structural load limits, vehicle dynamics simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of relevant product engineering experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, defense, aerospace, or a related industry.
  • Experience as a Design Release Engineer, technical lead, or equivalent, with end-to-end responsibility for a major subsystem.
  • Experience taking complex engineered products through concept, design, validation, launch, and field support.
  • Experience with CAD/CAE and PLM environments, formal change management, and part release processes.
  • Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee. Immigration sponsorship is not available, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, and J-1 support.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in engineering, particularly Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with military or government vehicle programs, standards, or acquisition processes.
  • Experience with chassis vehicle dynamics, durability, off-road mobility, heavy payloads, ultra-low-volume products, or rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with GM engineering processes, release systems, bills of material, and global vehicle development processes.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work connects high-volume automotive production standards with lightweight aerospace materials and mission-critical space hardware.
  • Benefits support employee well-being at work and at home.
  • Inclusive workplace focused on belonging, meaningful change, and non-discrimination.
  • Relocation benefits are not provided; relocation costs are the candidate's responsibility.
  • Regular travel to test sites, supplier locations, and customer facilities is part of the role.

Hiring process

  • Applicants may complete role-related assessments and pre-employment screening where applicable.
  • Successful candidates must pass a Motor Vehicle Report review and meet export-control requirements.
