Sr Engineer, SteeringGear (Automotive)

Location: Novi, Michigan, United States; 4–5 days per week in the office with regular in-person meetings and occasional travel.

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Engineer and lead the design and development of steering system components, including electric power steering, steering columns, and intermediate shafts.
• Coordinate with suppliers to meet structural, performance, packaging, manufacturing, and assembly requirements.
• Support chassis, drive-system, and full-vehicle integration for pickup truck and rugged SUV platforms.
• Review existing designs and specifications, propose engineering improvements, and develop packaging and testing strategies.
• Coordinate prototype and serial development, including part availability, test planning, timing, deliverables, cost, quality, and part releases.
• Partner with systems architecture and cross-functional teams to resolve engineering challenges and deliver validated solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Engineering Technology.
• 8+ years of steering gear, steering rack, or electric power steering experience in concept engineering or serial development for SUV or truck platforms.
• Strong capability in CAD/FEA part and system design, validation, and steering-system development.
• Experience with requirements decomposition, system-level integration, DFMEA, DVP&R, supplier engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and plant launch processes.
• Ability to lead component and system development within an OEM environment and independently manage projects through vehicle program milestones.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
