TL;DR
Senior Serviceability Design Engineer (Automotive): Developing serviceability deliverables for GM Defense vehicles, including service parts, technical manuals, diagnostic software, and maintenance documentation with an accent on electrical and mechanical systems, diagnostics, and remanufacturability. Focus on identifying service issues during design development, validating special tools and procedures, and supporting military vehicle programs under ITAR and security-clearance requirements.
Location: Hybrid in Warren or Milford, Michigan; on-site attendance required at least three times per week. Travel is required for less than 25% of the role. The position is not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do
- Represent serviceability and remanufacturability during the design development process.
- Identify service parts and develop service-parts bills of materials for programs and customer variants.
- Support the development and validation of service special tools, procedures, diagnostic software, and service information.
- Participate in product engineering meetings and peer reviews to identify, resolve, or escalate service issues.
- Provide technical support to program management, engineering, parts release, remanufacturing, service training, warranty, plants, field support, and suppliers.
- Support quality improvements, cost reduction, technical direction, and communication with internal and external customers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with five years of professional experience.
- Experience in serviceability engineering, field service, product support, or a related field, including practical diagnostic or technical experience.
- Ability to read engineering schematics and familiarity with service-information diagnostics or authoring.
- Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills, with the ability to work autonomously and escalate issues when needed.
- Must be a U.S. Person and able to obtain a Common Access Card and Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- The role is subject to ITAR and export-control restrictions; U.S. government security-clearance eligibility requires U.S. citizenship.
Nice to have
- Engineering or technology degree.
- Illustration, graphics development, or technical writing experience.
- Dealership technician or equivalent military experience.
- Military-application serviceability experience and supplier collaboration experience.
- Automotive diagnostic tools experience, including TLC, GDS2, SI, or SPS, and an active Secret clearance.
