Building Automation Systems Specialist (HVAC)

Location: Frederick, Maryland, USA; onsite at the Frederick National Laboratory, Ft. Detrick

What you will do

• Lead BAS projects, including planning, scope development, contractor coordination, upgrades, and repairs.
• Design, configure, program, modify, and optimize BAS and EMCS control sequences for laboratories, vivariums, GMP facilities, administrative buildings, and central utilities.
• Develop control logic, graphics, trend logs, alarm strategies, schedules, and analytics.
• Analyze HVAC and BAS performance using trend analysis, fault detection, diagnostics, and operational analytics.
• Maintain BAS databases, controller programming, technical documentation, and lifecycle replacement recommendations.
• Coordinate maintenance outages, emergency service calls, functional testing, regulatory support, and technical consultation across facilities and research teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree; foreign degrees require U.S. equivalency evaluation.
• At least two years of experience with BAS platforms such as Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, or Schneider.
• Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, electrical controls, critical environmental controls, building pressurization, mechanical equipment, and facility infrastructure.
• Experience with HVAC commissioning, fault detection and diagnostics, control-system troubleshooting, CMMS, energy management, and building performance optimization.
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, IP networking, control-system integration, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; the safety-sensitive role is subject to random drug testing. Physical work includes lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, and working in confined or potentially noisy environments.

• Experience with Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Building Operation.
• HVAC controls, building automation, or energy management certification.
