Health & Safety Manager (Energy)

Location: New Zealand, with flexible work from a main hub in Taupo, Tauranga, Wellington, or Auckland; proximity to a main hub is important for in-person collaboration. Candidates must have the right to live and work in New Zealand.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Health & Safety Advisors across the North Island.
• Partner with operational leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety leadership, capability, and ownership.
• Identify and manage critical risks using practical approaches grounded in frontline work.
• Build an open culture where people share learning, raise concerns, and challenge established practices.
• Support learning from everyday work and unexpected events to improve operational safety.
• Embed health and safety practices with contractors, partners, and North Island development and construction projects.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading health and safety in a complex operational environment.
• Experience leading and developing people and building team capability.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder influence skills.
• Sound understanding of New Zealand health and safety legislation and its practical application.
• Ability to challenge constructively, explain complex ideas clearly, and understand how work is performed.
• Right to live and work in New Zealand required; flexibility to work from a main hub in Taupo, Tauranga, Wellington, or Auckland is expected.

Nice to have

• Experience in energy, infrastructure, construction, or another high-hazard environment.
• Experience building relationships with iwi, hapū, and local communities.
