Senior Software Engineer (Big Data)

Location: Rockville, Maryland, United States; hybrid work environment with defined in-person presence requirements and occasional travel or extended hours.

Salary: $112,300–$202,500 annually for work performed in Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, or Washington, DC. Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, education, and market factors.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain the DIVER, BDSQL, METASTOR, and FASTOLA software products.
• Deliver technical solutions with cross-functional teams that meet business requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Improve code quality, system performance, infrastructure efficiency, and software security.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical strategy.
• Support production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and resolve technical risks and cross-team dependencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least five years of related experience, or equivalent training and work experience.
• Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, problem solving, complexity analysis, and data structures.
• Strong experience with Big Data, object-oriented development, system design, cloud technologies, and data storage technologies.
• Experience with AWS, including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS, API Gateway, IAM, VPC networking, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and X-Ray.
• Experience with Python, Java, Node, Go, RESTful APIs, microservices, SQL databases, and frontend applications using React, Angular, or Vue.
• Experience with performance optimization, DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, unit testing, and software security.

Nice to have

• Exposure to GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with QuickSight dashboards and data visualization.
• Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation for infrastructure as code.
