Senior Software Engineer (C#/Java/AI) - Underwriting Automation - Hybrid

Location: Hybrid, with office attendance at Bethesda, MD; Richardson, TX; Palo Alto, CA; or Bellevue, WA

Annual salary: $100,000–$230,000

What you will do

• Scope, design, and build scalable and resilient distributed systems for underwriting automation.
• Develop production-ready APIs, microservices, and end-to-end solutions spanning frontend, API, and backend domain services.
• Build event-driven and messaging-based solutions using GraphQL, gRPC, Java, Python, Kafka, and cloud-native tools.
• Deploy applications in hybrid cloud environments using Kubernetes and a range of data stores.
• Collaborate cross-functionally throughout the software lifecycle and participate in design sessions and code reviews.
• Use AI and automation to reduce repetitive manual underwriting work and improve speed and accuracy.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience with full-stack application and service development using .NET, Java, C#, Python, or another modern language.
• At least 4 years of full-stack development experience and 4 years of architecture and design experience.
• Experience with API-first engineering, service orchestration, event-driven architecture, federated GraphQL, and gRPC.
• Experience designing highly resilient, low-latency systems at scale, including schema evolution, versioning, reliability, and performance optimization.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Azure, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos, Cassandra, and Apache Trino.
• Understanding of security protocols and identity technologies including Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, and OAuth.
